Report: West Ham looking to Lazio defender Luis Pedro Cavanda

West Ham United are looking to bolster their defence in the final week of the transfer window with Belgian full-back Luis Pedro Cavanda.

West Ham United are interested in a move for Lazio right-back Luis Pedro Cavanda this month, according to Calciomercato.

Cavanda, 24, has been in and out of the Lazio side this season, making seven starts in 11 Serie A appearances, and the club are reported to be willing to offload him for a fee in the region of €2 million, despite his contract running until 2018.

West Ham were looking at the former Belgium Under-21 international in the summer along with Sunderland and Hull, according to Talk Sport, but the Hammers could now be set to ramp up their interest, amid doubts over whether Carl Jenkinson’s season-long loan can be made permanent.

A versatile defender, Cavanda has also filled in at left-back this season, and Sky Sports named Arsenal as potential suitors in the summer of 2013 following a successful campaign in which he established himself as a regular under former manager Vladimir Petkovic.

His stock has since taken somewhat of a hit in the Italian capital, but a fresh start at Upton Park could be just what’s needed to reignite his still-promising career.

West Ham boss says when he will decide about current loan stars

Sam Allardyce appears unwilling to discuss possible permanent moves for his loan stars until the end of the current campaign.

Vincent Ralph

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has been speaking about when the club will decide whether to turn their current loan deals into permanent transfers in an interview with London 24.

The Hammers currently have Alex Song on loan from Barcelona and Carl Jenkinson on a temporary basis from Arsenal, and it was the latter player Allardyce was referring to when he said, “Everyone is speculating on price and when the deal can be done.”

Jenkinson has impressed for West Ham this season, becoming a regular fixture at right-back and helping the side maintain their outstanding form.

The Hammers are currently seventh in the Premier League table, just three points away from an automatic European place and both Jenkinson and Song have been key to that progress.

With the likes of Hector Bellerin, Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers all competing for the right-back spot at Arsenal, it would be no surprise if Jenkinson completed a permanent move in the summer, but Allardyce has suggested he will make no decisions on any of his current loanees until then.

“When the season is over we will look at the players here, who are out of contract and on loan and then decide,” the West Ham manager said.

It seems highly likely he will want to keep both players if at all possible, but it remains to be seen if fees can be agreed that suit all parties.

Allardyce has passionate message for West Ham fans ahead of ‘exciting’ FA Cup run

Brad Pinard

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has vowed to do everything he can to take Hammers fans to Wembley in this season’s FA Cup.

The former Bolton and Newcastle boss has enjoyed the highs and lows of cup finals but is yet to get his hands on a major trophy.

With the Hammers off to Bristol City tomorrow, Allardyce sees this season as the perfect time to enjoy a big cup run and possibly bring silverware back to Upton Park.

Allardyce hopes to give fans another big day out or two before the summer and vows to give the FA Cup everything his squad has.

“When it comes to the latter stages it is always exciting and we want to be part of that,” Allardyce said.

“It would set us up nicely, especially moving into the new stadium, it is one of those things where supporters have everlasting memories of.

“I am sure fans will have great memories of the play-off final when we got promoted and we can give them another moment like that.

“We are due one. They should have won it against Liverpool when Alan (Pardew) was in charge but for a bit of brilliance by Steven Gerrard on the day.

“It is no good getting there and losing. I got to one once and lost, and have never watched it since.

“We always intended to try and go for because of the position we are in.

“Our difficulty was the African Nations players going away and the busy Christmas period which was extended with our FA Cup replay, but for us because we haven’t picked up as many injuries, we have a squad raring to get into the FA Cup and see how far we can go.

“I have no concerns that it will affect league form, the games fall on a Saturday except replays, and we have plenty of time between this game and our next game to recovery and keep our good form up.”

With the FA Cup semi-final’s being played at Wembley too, Big Sam is hoping to at least give fans a chance of another trip to the national stadium.

Despite admitting the costs for supporters isn’t ideal, Allardyce loves the fact the semi-finals are held at Wembley.

“I love it (the semi-finals being at Wembley),” Allardyce said.

“I do have a concern about the costing, for the fans, but if you are asking me it is a great experience for anyone playing at Wembley to go and enjoy it.

“It also gets you set up for the final, in that environment and atmosphere. Being at Wembley is one of the most wonderful things you can experience in your career.”
